Guide & Explanations
Color Theory at the Service of Design
Creating a balanced and professional color palette is not a guessing game. It is a science based on the color wheel, originally developed by Isaac Newton. Our Color Harmony Generator automates this complex theory to instantly offer you perfect combinations, ready to be integrated into your web, UI, or graphic design projects.
The 6 Classic Harmonies Explained
- Complementary: Two colors opposite each other on the color wheel. Offers the strongest contrast and immediately draws the eye. Perfect for Call-to-Action buttons.
- Analogous: Three colors side-by-side on the wheel. Creates a soothing, natural, and highly harmonious mood. Ideal for backgrounds and the overall theme of a site.
- Triadic: Three colors evenly spaced (equilateral triangle). A very vibrant palette, even if you use pale or desaturated hues.
- Split-Complementary: A base color associated with the two colors adjacent to its complementary. Offers high contrast but with less visual tension than pure complementary.
- Tetradic (Double Complementary): Four colors forming a rectangle. It is the richest harmony, but requires carefully balancing one dominant color and three accent colors.
- Monochromatic: A single base hue declined into different saturations and lightness levels. This is the safest choice for a modern and elegant interface.
Tints & Shades Generation
Having 3 or 4 base colors is not enough to design a complex web application. You need lighter colors for hover states and darker colors for borders or text. For each generated color, our tool automatically creates a "ramp" of 10 shades (from 5% to 95% lightness), compatible with the Tailwind CSS architecture.
Code-Ready Export
Forget tedious copy-pasting. Once your perfect palette is found, use our export buttons at the bottom of the page. You can copy the entire structure as native CSS variables (--color-primary-100: #...), as SASS/SCSS variables, or as a JSON object directly usable in your tailwind.config.js file.
